A Mother’s Love

Her soft hands held my face when she wiped away my tears

A gentle kiss on my forehead when I skinned my knee

She held me tight and ran her fingers through my hair

I looked at her angelic face

When I told her how beautiful she was, she blushed and looked away

Bad days, good days, rain or shine, she was always there

The love she had for me was not based on terms or conditions

I hope someday to give my children the gift she gave me

Wedding Cake

The room is filled with joy and happiness

She gazes at the young couple laughing

When looking at the wedding cake, she thinks back

The love of her life stands beside her

He promises her a lifetime of joy

She believed him, she believed it would last

Time slips away before her very eyes

As she sees her reflection in the mirror, reality strikes

Her once auburn hair, now silver

The porcelain skin of a doll, now aged

This old lady looking back, is now me

Locks of Gold by Maria A. Gardner

They stole from my beautiful garden

The only thing I had left

They took my plant

So I took their young child

To protect her, I locked her in a tall tower

Our home was in the middle of the forest

Her hair was long and golden like the sun

The most beautiful hair in all the land

It hung like a rope to the ground

She called me, Mother and I called her, Daughter

I fed her and clothed her, she sang to me

She would live with me forever

For I will never have a child of my own

One day, the king’s son heard her angelic voice

With her hair, he climbed the tower

He brought her red roses from the garden

He wished to marry her and pledge his love

I waited for him to leave

I grabbed scissors and cut off her hair

She cried when I left her alone in the desert

Her hair, short and jagged

When he called out to her to let down her hair

I lowered the hair I had cut

He climbed to the top, surprised I laughed and pushed him down

He fell upon thorns from the rose bush

Injured, he could no longer see

For year, he wandered the woods

Feeding off berries and leaves

One day, he wandered in the desert

He heard a familiar voice

It was her

She sang and they danced

My final years, I spent alone in the tower

The golden locks of hair, replaced by a rope

The locks of the gold were gone forever

I took my final breath and longed to hear voice one last time

I Must Go

I will always miss him. I will always think of him. Those special moments play in my head. Those special moments are in my heart. I walked with him by my side.

I now walk with only one set of footprints. I hear the wind calling my name. I hear his voice and now I must go.

Voice

The voice I hear in the wind is my sweet love.

His voice warms my heart as it once did.

I reach out for him, yet he seems far away.

I run toward it, but his voice is quite.

When I call his name, he does not answer.

My eyes are closed with my only focus on him.

When I listen quietly, I hear his voice.

Longing

Everyday, I think of you.

How I long to hear your voice, just one more time.

How I long to feel your touch and warmth of your hand.

I miss your hugs and the way you smell of cologne.

How I miss our talks.

I miss all the forever’s that will never be.

The silence of the day I miss the most.

For it is yet another reminder that you are no longer with me.

This is the reminder that I am along and long for someone I will no longer have by my side.
